About us

  • Quick Tips For New Dads is an iPhone app and community of likeminded men who care about being the best possible dads for their kids.

Everything you see has been written for dads, by dads. No nonsense. No waffle. Just simple, practical advice, that really works.

We also believe each baby is different, and each parent is different - one size doesn’t fit all. That’s why we’ve created a pool of tips and advice that any new dad can dip in and out of depending on their specific situation.

  • We cover the usual ‘dad skills’, such as changing nappies, bathing a newborn and how to combat post-natal depression. But we also tackle the bizarre stuff that most pregnancy books don’t talk about.

For example, did you know babies are usually born with soft, pulsating heads? Or that baby boys can get boners? Or that baby girls often have a mini-period after birth?

All completely normal, but still guaranteed to freak out any new dad.

  • Hi there! I’m Dave, the Founder of Quick Tips For New Dads.

It all began a few years ago when I was a new husband and dad living just outside London in the UK.

I was average height, average looking and pretty bald on top - I still am.

First, I become a dad to Mia, and two years later to William.

I won’t lie. I was absolutely terrified when Mia was born.

First off, I found labour a pretty horrifying experience, especially seeing my wife endure so much pain.

Then I realised the squidgy bundle of life that popped out was now completely dependent on me.

I also wanted to take really good care of my wife. But I couldn’t get to grips with all the wordy pregnancy books by her bed, which only seemed to be aimed at women.

I just wanted some good, honest ‘dad advice’, but I didn’t know where to look.

Then, about a week after birth, I went for a beer with some other dads I’d met through our local parenting group.

It became apparent that we all felt the same – we all wanted to take good care of our partners and babies, but we didn’t really know how to. And that’s when we started sharing tips with each other.

Basic stuff really - tips on changing nappies/diapers, helping out with breastfeeding, soothing a crying baby, coping with sleep deprivation, bathing a newborn baby and, most importantly, looking after the new mum.

The tips proved hugely useful and we all started feeling more involved as dads, and more bonded with our offspring.

We also started to earn some serious brownie points with our wives and girlfriends - happy days.

That’s when I thought other new dads could also benefit from these tips, especially if they were easily accessible through an app.

After all, about 750,000 babies are born in the UK each year, 4 million in the US, and over 130 million worldwide. That’s a lot of new babies. And a lot of new dads.

So, I wrapped the tips into a handy iPhone app, chucked in some how-to guides, and Quick Tips For New Dads was born.

Since then, thousands of dads have downloaded the app, shared their tips, and built the community we have today.

So, visit the App Store, check out the app, and see if you find the tips helpful too.

Until then, good luck with your journey into fatherhood - I’ll be thinking of you.

    Dave
